Along with the flagship MI 8, Xiaomi has also announced its new mid-range smartphone called the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE. The new Xiaomi MI 8 SE is the world’s first smartphone to be powered by the Snapdragon 710 chipset, which was announced a week ago. It can be considered as a toned down version of the flagship, Mi 8. Design-wise, it looks pretty similar to the Xiaomi Mi 8 with notch display and vertically placed dual rear camera. The smartphone comes with a price tag of 1799 yuan (~$280) for the 4GB + 64GB variant while the higher 6GB + 64GB variant costs 1999 yuan(~$312). It will be available in Bright Red, Bright Blue, Gold, and Dark Gray color options.
As for the specifications of the phone, the Xiaomi MI 8 SE has a 5.88-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED display with a resolution of 2244×1080 pixels and 18.7:9 aspect ratio. The display supports DCI-P3 color gamut and has a maximum brightness of 600 nits. It also comes with 2.5D curved glass body and an all-new glass back. Under the hood, it is powered by the octa-core Snapdragon 710 processor along with Adreno 616 GPU. The phone is offered in two variants- 4GB RAM paired with 64GB storage variant and 6GB RAM paired with 64GB storage variant. It doesn’t offer expandable storage. On the software front, it runs on the latest Android 8.1 Oreo topped with MIUI 9 skin, which will be upgradeable to MIUI 10.
All this is backed by a 3,120mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support. Just like the big brother MI 8, it also sports a notch display and misses out on the 3.5mm headphone jack. As for the security, it has a fingerprint sensor place at the back panel and facial recognition feature as well.Connectivity options include Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC, and USB Type-C port.
As for the cameras, it comes with a dual camera setup at the back which combines a 12MP primary sensor with 1.4um pixel size and f/1.9 aperture and a 5MP secondary sensor with f/2.0 aperture and 1.12um pixel size. On the front, there’s whopping 20MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture, 2.0um pixel size, and soft LED flash. The camera on the phone is also capable of capturing bokeh shots using AI.
