After weeks of rumors and leaks, HMD Global has today announced its new mid-range smartphone, the Nokia 7.1 at an event held in London. On one level, the Nokia 7.1 looks very identical to the predecessor Nokia 6.1 Plus, featuring the same all-glass design, same notched display, and the same dual-camera design.  Let’s talk about the phone in more details.

Talking about the specifications, the Nokia 7.1 has a 5.84-inch FHD+ PureDisplay panel with a screen resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels and 19:9 aspect ratio. There’s also a 2.5D curved glass coating on top with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Inside, it is powered by an octa-core  Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor paired with either 3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB or 64GB internal storage. It does support memory expansion via a microSD card up to 400GB. On the software front, the phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo and is guaranteed to receive the Android 9.0 Pie update in the near future as the phone belongs to the AndroidOne programme.

Powering the entire phone is a 3060mAh battery that can charge to 50% in just 30 minutes, as per the company. The fingerprint sensor is placed on the back panel of the phone. As for the connectivity options, it includes 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, 3.5mm headphone jack, NFC, Speaker with Smart AMP, USB Type-C etc.

For photography, the Nokia 7.1 comes with a dual-camera setup at the back, combining a 12-megapixel (f/1.8 and 1.28um pixels) primary sensor, and a 5-megapixel (f/2.4) secondary sensor, accompanied with ZEISS optics and dual-LED flash. Up front, there’s an 8-megapixel AI-powered sensor with a f/2.2 aperture for selfies and video-calling. The camera also supports the new 3D personas feature (Nokia’s Animoji) and Bothies as well.
