After loads of rumors and leaks, Xiaomi has finally taken the wraps off its new Redmi note 5 series smartphones in India today. The brand new Redmi Note 5 Pro is a selfie-centric smartphone while the Redmi Note 5 is more of a budget-friendly smartphone. Both the smartphones have a metal unibody construction and come equipped with the futuristic 18:9 aspect ratio display. Now, let’s take a closer look at what the Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro has to offer.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5
First off, talking about the Redmi Note 5- the successor of the popular Redmi Note 4. The smartphone has a 5.99-inch Full HD+ 18:9 aspect ratio display with a screen resolution of 2160×1080 pixels. Underneath, powering the phone is an Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor clocked at 2GHz paired with 3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB internal storage. Backing up the device is a massive 4,000mAh battery which sadly misses out on fast charging support. On the software front, it runs on Android 7.1.2 Nougat topped with MIUI 9. Moreover, the company claims that Redmi Note 5 is the thinnest phone they have made. It measures 158.5×75.4×8.05mm and weighs 180 grams.
In the optics department, the Redmi Note 5 packs a 12-megapixel rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, 1.25um Pixel Size, and dual-tone LED flash and on the front, you get a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with for capturing selfies and video calling. The front camera is also equipped with LED Flash.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro
According to Xiaomi, the new Redmi Note 5 Pro is a true successor to the Redmi Note 3 which was launched way back in 2016. The phone has an exact same display as the Redmi Note 5 which is 5.99-inch Full HD+ (2160×1080 pixels) resolution display along with aspect ratio of 18:9. The Redmi Note 5 Pro is also the world first phone to have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor onboard. The phone is offered in two RAM variants – one 4GB RAM variant and another 6GB RAM variant along with 64GB internal storage. It houses 4,000mAh battery and runs on Android 7.1.2 with MIUI 9 skin on top.
As far as cameras are concerned, it features a dual camera system at the back which combines one standard 12MP sensor while another being a 5MP telephoto lens paired with f/2.2 and f/2.0 aperture respectively. Furthermore, it also features 1.25um Pixel size and has a dual-tone LED flash as well. On the front, there’s a whopping 20-megapixel Sony IMX376 sensor for capturing selfies and video-calling. It is also included with Beautify 4.0 feature and LED Flash

Coming to the pricing, the Redmi Note 5 is priced at INR 9,999 (approx Rs.16,500) for 3GBRAM/32GB storage variant and INR 11,999 (approx Rs.19,200) for the 4GBRAM/64GB variant while the Redmi 5 Pro will cost INR 13,999 (approx Rs.22,420) and INR 16,999 (approx Rs.27,220) for the 4GB/32GB and 6GB/64GB variants respectively. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro will go on sale on February 22 in India. No word yet from Xiaomi on the availability of the phones on other markets including Nepal.
